Abstract

Abstract Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) encompass multiple sensor nodes. There is a restrained amount of energy, memory capacity and information processing ability affiliated to the sensor nodes. So this necessitates the requirement of schemes where energy of individual nodes can be preserved by minimizing the distance over which each node has to send data. This was made possible through clustering protocols. In clustering, the member nodes transfer their recorded data to the cluster leader and the cluster leader communicates the recuperated and ameliorated information to the terminal station thereby conserving energy. Also, lifespan, packet transmission ability, throughput and energy-efficiency of the network are other significant parameters for Wireless Sensor Networks. Clustering methods play a great role in establishing a sound and genuine communication keeping in view the above parameters. Numerous efforts are continuously being made to further ameliorate the pre-existing clustering protocols and enhance the network productivity. In this paper, we have recommended a new clustering algorithm SDEEC (Supplemented Distributed Energy Efficient Clustering) to augment the performance of WSNs. It has been observed by simulative analysis that the novel proposed algorithm SDEEC elevates the lifetime, improves the packet transmission ability, enhances the throughput and even boosts the energy-efficiency of wireless sensor networks thus surpassing the pre-existing DEEC protocol with respect to these parameters.
