Abstract

Abstract The behavior of TM-plane wave scattering from an isosceles trapezoidal cavity in a perfect electric conductor (PEC) is investigated. The complex function method and region-matching technique are employed to obtain a rigorous solution for this problem. The analyzed region is divided into three sub-regions by a suitable subdividing manner. The tangential fields in each sub-region are expanded by appropriate wave functions which satisfy the Helmholtz equation and boundary conditions, simultaneously. By using multi-polar coordinate transformation and Fourier series expansion technique in complex domain, four algebraic equations are constructed and solved for the unknown coefficients of the series. Some comparisons are taken to verify the validity of the procedure used in this study. Also, some typical examples are given to investigate the effect of the trapezoidal cavity parameters on scattering patterns.
