Abstract
This case series presents a single center experience on treating esophageal cancer related aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) .
From January 2010 to October 2022, 7 patients with cancer related AEF were treated with thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) at China medical university hospital.
Main tumor localized at the middle to lower third of esophagus, with residual disease or local recurrence disease status was the main risk factor of aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) development.
Survival after initial successful endovascular treatment ranged from 17 to 111 days. 4 patients died of non-aortic-related death. 3 of them survived more than 2 months and are able to discharge without disability. Thus, to reduce aortic related death is a crucial topic. Choosing an ‘extra’ oversizing stent graft selection up to 120-130% aortic diameter may produce better surgical outcome. As for late mortality after discharge, infection may play the most important role.
