Abstract

Abstract The tridax procumbens has been proven to show strong antimicrobial activity against staphylococcus aureus and can enhance skin infections' healing process. In this study, Tridax Procumbens (TP) liquid extracts blended Poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) thin-film membrane was developed through a chemical process. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) studies were carried out, which revealed the presence of clustered morphology of TP leaf extracts dispersed over the membrane. A different functional group present in the membrane was analyzed through the FTIR spectrum. The XRD analysis of PVA/TP was carried out and found a degree of crystallinity of 83% and crystal size of 5. 5 nm. DSC and TGA analyses were carried out and found the melting point and degradation of the membrane. An in-vitro wound healing study indicated that the maximum wound healing attained was 99% when liquid extracts 25 to 100 (µg/µl) of 20 wt. % of TP blended PVA membrane interacted with L929 cells for 24 hours. The in-vitro cytotoxicity examination revealed excellent cell viability on L929 cell interactions. The results suggest that the PVA/TP composite could be excellent wound-dressing material.
