Abstract

Abstract Employees working in many domains experience workplace stress and those related to academics are no exception in this regard. Workplace stress impacts the performance of teachers and the efficacy of a school. The study is led by the objective to examine the workplace stress and its relationship to the performance of teachers in terms of the behavioral outcomes of their job i.e., work involvement, employee efficiency and innovative behavior performing their job in private sector schools of district Karak, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Pakistan. In order to reach this objective, quantitative survey questionnaire was employed in the study to collect data from 120 teachers as a sample from different private sector higher secondary level schools. Pearson’s correlation analysis and regression analysis was applied on the data collected to obtain the statistical results of the study. The data analysis results suggest a significant negative relationship between workplace stress and performance. Further, workplace stress has a negative association with work involvement, employee efficiency and innovative behavior respectively. Future studies may include examining the effects of workplace stress on employee citizenship behavior with larger sample size and broader jurisdictions not only limited to education but also other spheres of businesses for a vast generalization.
