Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Intralesional curettage has been a routine procedure performed on the regular basis for the treatment of GCT. Many studies also have supported that adding adjuvants decreases the local recurrence rate in GCT. Only a few studies had been conducted on phenol as a single adjuvant compared with non-adjuvants or other adjuvants in therapeutic management to decrease recurrence in GCT. In the present study, we compared phenol with non-phenol or other adjuvants in GCT on clinical outcomes by a meta-analysis.
Methods: The local recurrence rate of GCT patients was collected from research reports from CNKI, MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Database, and Google Scholar till June 30, 2022. The quality of included articles was evaluated by two independent reviewers. Differences between patients receiving phenol and non-phenol or other adjuvant therapy were analyzed based on local recurrence.
Results: Seven articles were included according to selection criteria. There were 1042 patients in total from these studies. Our results showed that there was a significant difference between phenol and non-phenol or other adjuvants group.
Conclusions: Participants receiving phenol reported a lower local recurrence rate than the participants of non-phenol or other adjuvants. This study provided more pieces of evidence to support phenol as adjuvant therapy for GCT.
