Abstract
Abstract
Background
In agricultural regions, traps can be used to track target pests using particular pheromones.
Result
Evaluation of the effects of trap color, trap direction, and trap location on Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) captures of the potato moth. A pheromone capsule served as bait for each trap. More insects were captured by white pheromone traps than by yellow, blue, green, or red traps. The mean catches of the white and other coloured traps were found to vary significantly. Although there are negligible differences between the mean catches at each direction, the trap caught more moths when it was placed in the south or centre of the infested region than when it was placed in the west, east, or north. When compared to the two other locations (50 and 100 cm above the ground), the collective capture of P. Operculella moths made by the ground-resting traps was greater. A comparison test of catches revealed significant differences between the 0 cm position (rested on the ground) and the other two positions.
Conclusion
When creating a monitoring system for P. operculella trapping system, these results should be taken into consideration.
