Abstract
This paper uses a CFD-based technique for simulating vapour cloud explosion. A firm full scale CFD model was developed for the building and LPG gas tank. This study also showed how the dispersion and combustion of an average cloud, formed during a spill into a liquefied petroleum gas tank could be simulated. The performance of this simulation allows assessment of the overpressure resulting from the burn of the flammable gas cloud. The objective of this study is therefore to assess different turbulence models against actual experimented measurements to evaluate their suitability in modelling dense vapour dispersion. CFD models showed that controlling variables include release surface area, wind speed, turbulence, and nearby obstructions.
