Abstract
Abstract
Wireless sensor networks are recognized as road networks to enhance driving safety and provide various services for drivers, and the IEEE 802.15.4 standard has been widely used as the international standard for wireless sensor networks. This standard considers networks consisting of low-power, low-cost devices, and is characterized by simplicity. The features of these IEEE 802.15.4 standards are expected to play a role in accelerating the application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in intelligent transport systems (ITS). An ITS requires real-time and high reliability for safety, but the IEEE 802.15.4 standard does not satisfy these requirements of the ITS. Thus, we propose an enhanced superframe structure to support an ITS in the IEEE 802.15.4 network. The proposed scheme can provide reliability and Quality of Service (QoS) to the monitoring system of an ITS. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme guarantees reliability, real-time performance, and reduces the energy consumption of the entire network.
