A new Palaeolithic chipped stone tool technology from Southeast Anatolia: the Haydar tool

Abstract

Abstract During the Palaeolithic, a wide variety of tool technologies and typologies are known to have emerged. Some of those technologies were used over large areas for long periods, while others were geographically restricted and more regionalized. The Haydar tool recovered from the Haydar open-air settlement in Mardin province can be interpreted as a particular and more regional tool techno-typology. This unifacial tool, which is as large as a typical handaxe, can be included in the Levallois concept because of its form and production technic.
