Abstract

Abstract Background To introduce a simple glioblastoma target delineation method based on peritumoral edema. Methods First, a postoperative glioblastoma patient was selected, the target volume was delineated using three methods (RTOG method, EORTC method, and the method of this study), and radiotherapy plans were formulated. The dose distributions of each schedule were compared. Then, patients treated with the delineation method recommended in this study were retrospectively analyzed, and progression-free survival and overall survival were determined. Results The high-dose region distributions of the 3 plans were RTOG method > EORTC method > this study, as was the low-dose region. Thirty-three patients were included in the retrospective study, and the median progression-free survival and overall survival were 12 and 25 months, respectively. Conclusions Our study suggests that delineating the target volume for glioblastoma radiotherapy based on peritumoral edema is a good choice.
