Abstract
Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer causes 270,000 deaths annually. Novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets are urgently needed. NEIL2 is involved in DNA repair and genomic stability maintenance. Its role in cervical cancer is unclear. This study aimed to explore NEIL2 as a novel prognostic biomarker for cervical cancer.
Methods: Bioinformatics analysis was performed on TCGA, GSE7410 and GSE63514 datasets. NEIL2 expression was compared between cervical cancer and normal tissues. Patients were stratified by NEIL2 expression. Survival analysis was conducted. Prognostic factors were identified using Cox regression.
Results: NEIL2 expression was downregulated in cervical cancer. High NEIL2 expression associated with better survival outcomes. Age and histology correlated with NEIL2 expression. High NEIL2 expression, lymph node status and tumor stage were independent prognostic factors. A prognostic nomogram using these factors showed good accuracy.
Conclusions: NEIL2 is a promising prognostic biomarker for cervical cancer.
Impact: Differential NEIL2 expression may serve as an independent risk factor for cervical cancer prognosis. Further validation is warranted.
