Abstract
Abstract
Purpose
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of death among cancer patients. Long noncoding RNAs, or lncRNAs, are becoming essential cancer regulators. However, it is still unknown how most of them are expressed, what their roles are, and how their molecular mechanisms function in colorectal cancer (CRC). The present study evaluated the expression of the lncRNA LSINCT5 in noncancerous tissues and primary colorectal cancers.
Methods
Samples were collected from 100 cases of colorectal cancer that included tumor tissues and adjacent non-tumor tissues. RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis were done. The qRT-PCR was utilized to assess the LSINCT5 gene's expression.
Results
Tumors have significantly higher levels of LSINCT5 expression than the non-cancerous adjacent tissues (P = 0.0008). LSINCT5 may function as a poor diagnostic biomarker, according to the results of the ROC curve, which showed AUC values of 0.6514, specificity values of 0.68, and sensitivity values of 0.60.
Conclusion
Our research suggested that increased expression of LSINCT5 in tumor tissues of CRC patients may be engaged in promoting and developing CRC cells as a novel oncogene. Additionally, LSINCT5 can be considered a poor diagnostic biomarker for CRC diagnosis.
