Abstract

Abstract The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) stands as a seminal government initiative within the public health landscape of India. Launched in September 2018, AB PM-JAY represents a visionary attempt to address the challenges of healthcare accessibility, affordability, and quality that have long plagued the country. Employing a phenomenological approach, the present research elucidates the complications patients face possessing golden cards in availing healthcare facilities. A purposive sampling technique was utilised to enlist a cohort of 20 seriously ill participants in the Kashmir region. Data acquisition was facilitated through the administration of a semi-structured interview schedule. The ensuing analysis was conducted per Colaizzi's method, yielding two salient thematic constructs: "Fraud and Abuse" and "Issues on Claims Processing and Timeliness." Additionally, a visible distinction between empanelled and un-empanelled healthcare facilities precipitated confusion and a confluence of social, economic, cultural, and psychological adversities for the patients.
