Abstract
The reaction of benzyl alcohol or benzyl halide with urea in a mixture of choline chloride and aluminum nitrate ionic liquid as a solvent resulted in the formation of N-monosubstituted urea products. This reaction was achieved good to excellent yields for a number of derivatives of benzyl alcohols and benzyl halides under the reaction conditions. Since the resulting products were so polar and insoluble in water, they were easily separated from the reaction medium by adding water to the reaction mixture. Therefor such ionic liquid provided a facile and selective route for the synthesis of pharmaceutically and industrially substantial compounds.
