Abstract

Abstract Palm leaf sheath fibers (PLSFs), obtained from palm trees that are found in the southern part of China, has been used to make buffer and resilience products such as mattresses. After decomposition, it was found that the palm fibers wrap the tree trunks in three layers, by means of clockwise, counter-clockwise, and overlapping mechanisms. The length of the palm fibers measured between 200 and 350 mm, the weight between 0.002 and 0.006 g. It was also observed that PLSFs that were found at the middle and upper parts of the leaf sheath exhibited good tensile properties.
