Abstract
This work presents the preparation and characterization of the powder from the bark of the cashew tree Anacardium occidentale L. and the aqueous extract obtained from the bark of the cashew tree and studies the use of this extract for removing metals in acid solution. The experiments were carried out on a laboratory scale using contaminated water with a concentration of 4.0 mol/L of the metals Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Pb, Sn, Zn and different volumes of the extract obtained from the bark of the cashew tree. The coagulation process between the extract and the metal species led to a decrease in the metal concentration in solution due to precipitation. Removal of up to 25% was obtained for all analyzed metals. Using the principles of green chemistry, the process was evaluated with a very good green approach.
