Energy-efficient Design of Cognitive Radio Sensor Network With Channel Bonding Using Software Defined Radio

Abstract

Abstract Underutilization of some licensed bands and increasing demand for large bandwidth allocation in unlicensed bands lead to the development of channel bonding in Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks (CRSN). Since Sensor Networks usually consists of power constraint devices, we need to acquire channel bonding in CRSN without sacrificing its energy efficiency. In this paper, we proposed an energy-efficient channel bonding with adaptive channel selection for CRSN to enable the unlicensed users to access the licensed user’s spectrum with enhanced performance in their absence. The channel bonding can significantly increase the spectral efficiency of CRSN. The adaptive channel selection based on minimum occupancy criteria proposed increases the energy efficiency of the CRSN. Simulation and hardware testbed results show that the proposed method has a considerably better throughput of 27% and an energy efficiency of 21% compared to the existing methods.
