Abstract
Abstract
Introduction:
Choriocarcinoma is a fast-growing, malignant, and rare gestational trophoblastic tumour. Although the prognosis of this tumour is very good, serious complications such as preeclampsia and haemorrhagic shock can occur.
Case Presentation:
A 31-year-old female patient, who was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma, returned to the hospital with severe abdominal pain a few days after her first cycle of chemotherapy treatment. Upon further examination, the presence of free fluid in her abdomen and high β-hCG levels were identified. Consequently, an emergency laparotomy was performed discovering that the uterine tumour, which was adherent to the right colon and appendix, had ruptured. A total hysterectomy and right oophorectomy were performed, and the patient is now doing well.
Conclusions:
This case elucidates the need for improved diagnostic methods and classification systems along with swift management of gestational trophoblastic diseases.
