Patient care errors and related problems (part I): development and validation of the model

Abstract

Abstract Aims The aim of this study was to develop and validate the patient care errors and related problems model. Methodology The patient care errors and related problems model was developed and validated based on many steps, including an extensive literature review, experts’ opinions, and the Delphi method. Data were entered and analyzed using SPSS version 21 (SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 21.0, IBM Corp., USA). The qualitative part was manually analyzed, then summarized all transcripts. Results After an extensive literature review and many rounds of discussion with experts, the patient care errors, and related problems model was developed and validated. The patient care errors and related problems model were divided into many themes related to the following: preventive medicine, self-care, patient assessment and diagnosis and management plan. Conclusion The patient care errors and related problems model has been developed and validated, which can be used as a tool for assessing patient care errors and related problems.
