Abstract
Abstract
The distribution system experiences a large power loss as a result of a significant voltage drop. Many techniques have been developed in the literature to mitigate this issue by considering a single-load model. This paper presents a methodology for reducing system loss by improving voltage profiles through Distributed Generations (DGs) placement followed by reconfiguration for different load models. Constant Power (CP), Constant Current (CI), and Constant Impedance (CZ) as well as ZIP (Constant Impedance, Current, and Power) load models with varying loads are considered. The index vector method and Modified whale optimization algorithm are used to determine the best location and size of DGs. A load increment of 7% is used to plan the distribution system for the next five years. The applicability of the proposed methodology is demonstrated in the modified IEEE-33 bus and modified IEEE69 bus Radial Distribution System (RDS) and the results are compared with the existing Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique. The result shows that reconfiguration followed by placement of DGs is an effective technique for minimizing system loss by improving voltage profiles.
