Abstract
The operating parameters have an important impact on the performance of a
proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). This paper investigates
experimentally and numerically the cell temperature and relative humidity
which have a significant influence on the PEMFC current density. These
parameters are adjusted simultaneously and dynamically during operation. A
50 cm2 active area single-cell PEMFC with serpentine flow channel was
studied. In order to confirm the experimental measurements, a mathematical
model was established using the MATLpackage program and the results were
compared. According to both experimental and mathematical model results,
adjusting the operation parameters instantly according to the current value
produced by the cell had a positive effect on the cell durability and
performance.
