Abstract

Urban forests represent networks, that is systems, that include forests, groups of trees, and individual trees in urban and peri-urban areas. They are one of the primary types of green infrastructure in cities, enhancing living conditions for residents and providing a wide range of ecosystem services. This paper analyzes the urban forest of Kosutnjak, whose area extends into the urban core of Belgrade. The needs of its users have been analyzed, as well as the current management practices, all with the aim of formulating proposals for measures to achieve a resilient ecosystem and establish sustainable management of this protected area. Additionally, the goal of the conducted research is to raise awareness among residents about the benefits provided by this urban forest, as well as its cultural and historical significance, which gives this area national importance.
