Abstract

This chapter traces the nature of industrial capitalism as a new form of conquest throughout the past century and the present at the US-Mexico border. Alejandro Lugo’s examination of the region reveals relational conceptions of class and changing conceptions of culture from “shared cultural patterns” to “fragmented cultural borderlands” in the life of working-class border people.
