Abstract
This chapter argues that, in proposing to combat climate change, geoengineering practices that aspire to deliberately manipulate the environment to neutralize the effects of climate change simultaneously reinforce the neoliberal world order and disadvantage Indigenous Peoples. Posing climate change as a transnational problem perpetrated by colonial and capitalist frameworks, this chapter puts forth an alternative framework for governing geoengineering practices that enhance, rather than degrade, Indigenous sovereignty. This proposed framework engages polycentricity and ties together diverse ontological lenses related to climate change, pulling Indigenous sovereignty and Indigenous environmental practices into the contemporary fight against climate change.
