Conclusion

Abstract

This chapter argues that the Anthropocene is the Indonesian moment of the earth sciences. Modern theories of the earth were forged on the slopes of Javanese volcanoes. The problem, for those who do not live there, is how to inherit the ideas of others. Decentering the significance of western geologists and earth scientists is key. The Anthropocene debate has opened an opportunity to rethink and reimagine the geological sciences, to imagine new dandy sciences, to rethink the relationship between body and cosmos, to understand geology as ancestral, to learn what it means to pray, and to understand the history of geological thought as social thought.
