In January 2022, Jeremy Prestholdt communicated with Edward A. Alpers, author, editor, and coeditor of many books and Research Professor and Emeritus Professor of History at the University of California, Los Angeles. Communicating by email, in this interview Alpers discussed his career and scholarly trajectory, his books Ivory and Slaves in East Central Africa and The Indian Ocean in World History, many of his pathbreaking articles, and his current research.
