OPINIONS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ON THE USE OF CURRENT EVENT IN SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSES

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine and analyze the awareness levels of special education teachers regarding the use of current events in social studies lessons. Situation analysis, one of the qualitative research models, was used in the research. In this direction, 15 volunteer special education teachers working in the special education branch of public schools in Antalya Province Muratpaşa District were interviewed in the 2021-2022 academic year. Semi-structured interview questions prepared by taking expert opinions were prepared for teachers. The interview form consists of open-ended questions and was prepared in accordance with the sub-problems. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis technique. When the results of the research are examined in general, it has been determined that there are deficiencies in the use of current events in the field of special education. In order to eliminate these deficiencies, it can be suggested that special education teachers should be informed more about this issue by making a structuring on current events in special education programs.
