Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the quality of life (QOL) of the elderly living in Eldivan district of Çankırı, to reveal the effects of economic, health, social data and nutritional habits of the elderly on their QOL. A total of 180 elderly individuals living in the district and selected by random sampling method were included in the study, which was carried out through face-to-face interviews. In the study carried out in September-October 2020, Elderly Information Form, Katz Daily Living Activities Scale and CASP-19 Elderly Quality of Life Scale Turkey Version (CASP-13) were used. Statistically significant results affecting QOL were obtained by using comparison tests of univariate group rank values over CASP-13 scores. In the study, the mean CASP-13 scale score was 27.21 ± 8.40 and the median was 29 (3-39). The QOL was high in the elderly who were male, had a high education level, had social security, had a regular salary and an additional source of income, and could use their income for themselves. The QOL was low in the elderly with chronic disease and pain, using a cane and incontinence. The QOL was higher in the elderly who were able to sleep, were satisfied with the quality of sleep, walked regularly, had a good appetite, and could consume meat, fish or chicken. As a result, it was suggested that elderly-friendly policies should be produced that support the elderly in terms of health, social and economic aspects in rural conditions.
