Examination of Safety Measures Against Home Accidents of Mothers with 1-6 Years Age Group Children Presenting to Emergency Service According to Some Variables

Abstract

This research was conducted for the purpose of examining the safety precautions for domestic accidents by mothers with children aged 1-6 years to apply for child emergency services. The study was conducted with 390 mothers with children between the ages of 1 and 6 who presented to the pediatric emergency service. Data were collected by using an information form and the "Scale for identification of safety measures for preventing home accidents in 0-6 years age group children". It was found that the mean age of the mothers in the research was 31.73±5.88 (years). 40.5% of them were university graduates. It was determined that the mean age of the children in the study was 3.61±1.59 (years) and 50.5% of these children were male. It was determined that 46.9% of the children participating in the study experienced a home accident at least once. It was found that the children were exposed to home accidents most frequently as falling / slipping (51.3%) and burning / scalding (23.5%). The mean score of the mothers' scale for identification of safety measures for home accidents was 178.39±14.99.
