Abstract
AbstractField‐oriented control (FOC) has been broadly used as an accurate control method for electric drives. The traditional FOC approach has been effectively developed to 3‐phase induction motor (3φ IM) drive systems in recent decades. Despite the usefulness of FOC methods during normal condition, these strategies are unable to control a wye‐connected 3φ IM (3φ IMy) under the stator winding open circuit fault (SWOCF). This paper discusses modified indirect rotor FOC (FOCIR) strategies for 3φ IMydrives under the SWOCF. The stationary reference frame (RF) model is presented and utilized to develop vector control systems for the faulty 3φ IMyusing asymmetrical transformations. This model is also used to propose a modified FOCIRmethod for 3φ IMydrives against the SWOCF based on the symmetrical/traditional transformation and using the bi‐voltage controller. The performances of the presented control methods are confirmed via simulations and experiments for a 3φ IMyconsidering the SWOCF. The achieved results show the effectiveness of modified FOCIRstrategies for vector control of the faulty 3φ IMydrive.
