Abstract

Неотъемлемой частью политики Османской империи было изменение демографической картины Западной Армении в пользу турецко-курдских элементов. К основным причинам, повлиявшим на изменения демографической картины провинции Диарбекир, относятся перемещения армян внутри страны, когда население мигрировало из сельских районов в более крупные районы, заселенные в основном армянами, эмиграция (в этот период в основном в США), а также исламизация, которая была актуальна в XIX веке и особенно в годы гамидовских истреблений. Во многих населенных пунктах провинции Диарбекир основными причинами миграции были социальная, налоговая и религиозная политика империи в отношении к армянам, экономическое положение армянских крестьян, отсутствие собственности, насилие и массовые истребления с 1890-х годов. An integral part of the Ottoman Empire's policy of persecuting the Armenians was to change the demographic profile of Western Armenia in favor of Turkish-Kurdish elements. The movements of the Armenian population of Diarbekir province, including migration within the country, emigration (mainly to the USA at that time), as well as Islamization, which was also actual during the XIX century and especially during the years of the Hamidian massacres, were the main causes that affected the demographic profile of the area. In other settlements of Western Armenia as well as in many settlements of Diarbekır province, the main reasons for emigration were the social, tax and religious discriminatory policies applied to the Armenian population, the economic situation of the Armenian peasants, the lack of ownership, violence, and the massacres that had been implemented in the 1890s.
