The Relationship Between Leisure Constraints Self-Determination and Social Isolation

Abstract

Recreation is an important tool for societies to develop a sense of integration and improve the skills of self-determined individuals. Although, the relationship between recreation and self-determination is widely studied, the relations between recreation constraints, isolation and self-determination are not studied sufficiently. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between recreational constraints, social isolation and self-determination. The study is conducted in Ahlat with 248 sample group. The results are analysed with SMARTPLS which is an important statistical program for structural equation models. The result of the study reveals that there is a relationship between structural constraints of recreation and social isolation, and social isolation with self-determination. For this reason, it is strongly suggested that destinations should maintain recreational facilities and encourage the residents to engage in the activities.
