Abstract
The paper provides information on the current state and prospects of development of the network of Nature Protected Areas of the Komi Republic. At the initiative of scientists, public organizations, and the local population, with the sup-port of the state authorities of the region and the Russian Federation, an extensive system of Nature Protected Areas was created. It includes 4 reserves of federal subordination, 228 nature reserves (zakazniks) and nature monuments of regional significance and 2 protected objects of local significance. The analysis showed that there are significant gaps in the network of Nature Protected Areas. In 2019–2021 a promising scheme for the development and placement of Nature Protected Areas of the Komi Republic was developed, based on the analysis of gaps and taking into account the interests of socio-economic development of the region and adjacent subjects of the Russian Federation. The paper gives characteristics of the scheme. The implementation of the scheme, which involves the creation of 26 nature reserves (zakazniks) and nature monuments of regional significance, will contribute to the formation of a representative, effectively managed system of Nature Protected Areas linked into an ecological framework.
