Abstract
The growing demand for electricity against the background of the sustainable use of traditional types of energy creates environmental problems that are escalating at an increasing pace. In order to reduce the severity of the problem and eliminate it, it is considered necessary to involve non-traditional energy sources, in particular, green energy, in a wide turnover. In Azerbaijan, which has abundant energy resources, the construction of a green energy network is also among the priorities of the state. According to estimates, the total potential of the country's green energy is estimated at 27 thousand MW. This further expands the huge potential of wind energy in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. On the other hand, the availability of sufficient green energy resources on the lands liberated from occupation determines the creation of an energy system here on this basis. In this regard, President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev declared the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions a green energy zone. Currently, large-scale projects in this direction are being implemented in the country. Based on all this, the article focuses on such priority issues as global trends in the green energy sector, green growth and sustainable development, as well as realities reflecting the current situation in Azerbaijan in this area. In this regard, substantive results were obtained and relevant practical proposals were put forward.
Keywords: green energy, alternative energy sources, green economy, sustainable development.
