Abstract

Abstract V2AlC was synthesized via self-propagation high-temperature sintering using V/Al/C powders as raw materials. Results showed that the main phase of the product was V2AlC in the sample from 2V/Al/C powders. A low amount of VC0.75 was also observed in the product. The weight contents of V2AlC and VC0.75 in this sample were 94.5 % and 5.5 %, respectively. Excess Al additives clearly improved the synthesis of V2AlC. For the raw material 2V/1.1Al/C, single-phase V2AlC material can be obtained.
