Microstructure of a ternary Al–Pd–Rh alloy

Abstract

Abstract The characterization of phases in a ternary Al – Pd – Rh complex metallic alloy annealed at 1100 °C for 49 h before (original state) and after differential thermal analysis was performed. In the investigation, light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and differential thermal analysis were used. The dominant constituent in the original state was characterized as ∊6-phase. The minor constituent was attributed to the additionally solidified liquid co-existing with the ∊6-phase at 1100 °C. After differential thermal analysis, the microstructure of the alloy was composed of the matrix ∊6-phase and areas of the creek-type morphology.
