Observations on the Absorption of Water, Diapause and Embryogenesis in the Eggs of the Cricket Teleogryllus Commodus (Walker)

Abstract

1. The eggs of Teleogryllus commodus absorb water only when the embryo has reached a particular stage of development. 2. Water is absorbed just before the development of the embryo reaches the stage at which diapause occurs. 3. Preventing the absorption of water prevents the further development of the embryo. 4. These results are discussed in relation to other information on water absorption and diapause in the eggs of insects.
