Abstract

Every aspect of civilization, including its growth and sustainability on both political and socioeconomic level, is significantly impacted by access to clean water. As a result, maintaining water supplies and treating wastewater have become major global challenges. Water pollution is caused by a variety of gases, microbes, and other poisons that are added to water during rainfall, running water, etc. Studies into the concurrent removal of several contaminants or coexisting contaminants from water by nanoparticles pave the door for a novel route that is not only affordable but also devoid of secondary contamination. Hence, decontaminating water that has been polluted by hazardous and toxic compounds is a topic that generates considerable interest among researchers. This chapter discusses various types of nanomaterials as photocatalysts that can effectively manage contaminated water. By analyzing earlier studies to investigate the toxic compounds present in water, this chapter also highlights the various water treatment approaches for purification of wastewater.
