Abstract

Balance of power theories have been promulgated throughout the field of international relations since the end of World War II as a way to organize and order the global community as well as understand influence and power dynamics. This chapter will explore globalization literature, as well as contemporary international politics, that this author views as being characterized by deglobalization, or the turn inward for nation-states as opposed to the continuation of postmodern international cooperation brought about by the era of globalization (1980-2010s).
