Conducting Graduate Education Programs in Agricultural Education

Abstract

Graduate education fulfills a specific need within the professional growth of students but carries different considerations when pursuing a degree or designing a degree program as compared to undergraduate programs. Agricultural education graduate programs possess a nuance in balancing the need to serve a wide audience, use limited departmental resources, and encapsulate the breadth of school-based agricultural education to develop effective future teacher educators and scholars. This chapter serves to provide potential graduate students with an understanding of what to reflect on when pursuing a graduate degree, as well as the various curriculum components and experiences which they might engage in. Additionally, the authors have outlined programmatic decisions for faculty to consider when creating or revising agricultural education graduate programs.
