Intra- and Inter-Political Party Crises in Nigeria's Fourth Republic

Abstract

Political parties across the globe represent a significant avenue through which difference among individuals and groups in democratic societies are resolved. However, the history of political parties' activities since 1999 are replete with so much crisis that rather than furthering democratic ethos, have indeed become stumbling blocks to attainment of stable democratic order. The research employs mixed method by drawing data from both primary and secondary sources of data, by primary data interview, specifically key informant interview, was employed (KII) while secondary data was obtained from internet surfing, journal articles, newspapers, magazines, and textbooks. The chapter finds out that all these political parties have failed to reconcile their differences amicably. The chapter also recommends that political parties in Nigeria in particular and the modern world in general are expected to resolve internal disputes (intra-party) and disputes between and among parties (inter-party) within the democratic process.
