Abstract
Intelligent transportation systems are an area that have been in discussion for a lot of time, more precisely since in the 90's. With the advances in technology, it has been possible to start implementing this type of system, which brings a lot of benefits to people's lives; like, for example, making their road trips more secure and efficient. It also helps the environment, due to people spending less time in transit, and is a system that complements the emerging industry of smart cities. It all sounds good, except when it comes to security and privacy. This chapter will present these systems and their security and privacy concerns, including vulnerabilities that can be exploited if the due measures are not considered and implemented, which are even harder to obey because of privacy regulations like the general data protection regulation (GDPR).
