Abstract
Smart cities are a blessing of modern technology. Using information and communication technology, the life of citizens has been improved with robust information sharing, which also results in increment of operational efficiency. Hand gesturing is considered as a suitable method to communicate or convey information in smart cities. It helps the people who are unable to speak; moreover, it helps the elderly people communicate with caregivers whenever they need help. This chapter consists of three major sections. In the first section, the authors have presented a detailed discussion on smart cities. The second section of this chapter mainly concentrates on human computer interaction (HCI) system In the third section, the vision-based gesture recognition systems are focused on by discussing the applications, working, and future of vision based gesture recognition systems. By providing a comprehensive overview of these topics, young researchers can gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in these fields, as well as potential areas for future research.
