Abstract
This chapter aims to determine the interrelationships between three variables — green human resource management (GHRM), employees' eco-friendly behavior (EEB), and organizational commitment (OC). It further examines the intervening effect of OC on the link between GHRM and EEB. The study's participants were employees of select green companies in Metro Manila, Philippines. Predictive-causal design and partial least squares (PLS) path modeling were utilized to measure the direct and indirect effects of the hypothesized relationships. The results showed that GHRM and EEB are positively and significantly related. It was also found that GHRM significantly predicts OC, and OC significantly influences EEB. When tested using mediation analysis, OC was found to affect the link between GHRM and EEB indirectly. The current study imparts a novel view on OC as a mediator between GHRM and EEB in the Philippine setting. Theoretically, the study strengthens the social identity theory by demonstrating how employees' behavior and values are influenced and shaped by their organizations.
