Demystifying Digital Education as a Field of Study and Indian Potentialities

Abstract

Digital engagement is increasing day by day in every sector using various digital tools, techniques, and technologies. And teaching-learning process is not an exception to this trend. High-end technology including management techniques and principles have developed newer educational models and concerns such as e-learning, online education, education technology, virtual education, blended learning. Many universities have started digital education at bachelors, masters, doctoral levels with various focused areas and specialization related to the digital education and educational technology. The birth of newer educational models, industry-academia educational models, practice-based learning, research-driven educational models, interdisciplinary academic practices lead digital education degree and educational programs. This chapter focused on digital education involved with core thrust on showcasing digital education to become a program of study instead of only a practicing field. The need of such programs and nomenclature in the Indian context has also been mentioned and proposed.
