Abstract
When working with clients, professionals in the mental health field are often confronted with various obstacles that they must overcome. When providing care, professionals should adhere to the highest standards of competence. The community and private practice settings present challenges for mental health professionals in the form of conflicts of interest that must be navigated. It is particularly important for those working in community mental health to address potential ethical and legal problems. Helping professionals must be trained and informed on appropriate procedures and practices, and they must be upfront and honest with their clients about the benefits and drawbacks of various assessment and diagnostic systems.
