Abstract
The mental health profession is all about helping people and plays a unique role in society. Mental health professionals are required to maintain a neutral stance towards different ideologies and value systems that their clients hold. They must help their clients examine their values and determine how to achieve them best. Mental health professionals must be effective in their approach and sensitive and understanding of their clients' values. Conflicts can arise if their clients' values are not respected in an attempt to be practical and effective. When choosing a career as a mental health professional, it is essential to be aware of one's personal values, as they can impact the counseling process and moral development. Although helping others can fulfill personal needs, it should never come at the client's expense.
