Abstract
Ethics are the principles that guide moral behavior and dictate how individuals interact with one another. In everyday language, ethics are a set of moral standards that a community recognizes. The culture of a community shapes these standards and is subject to change as society evolves. For professionals, especially those in the mental health field, ethics refers to a set of moral standards that define how members of that profession should conduct themselves. These standards are usually outlined in a code of ethics, and mental health professionals are expected to abide by them both personally and professionally. As professionals in a scientific discipline, mental health practitioners must clearly express their profession's ethical principles in their work.
