Abstract
Engineered cementitious composites (ECC) are developed for the wide applications of construction industry and it is considered as a special form of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites. This material exhibits excellent shear capacity, capable of controlling crack-width and better damage tolerance capacity. ECC enhances the basic properties of materials thereby increasing the structural performance, exhibits some unique properties, that cannot be replaced by conventional concrete and on implementing ECC structures for desired applications, shows superior performance. The chapter describes the importance and benefits of ECC materials in the field of construction, current uses, and future scope. Conventional concrete material shows low tensile strength as well as strain capacity. ECC is a potential material to exhibit superior durability performances as well as structural viability.
